Spindale offers a plethora of exciting activities for families, tourists,

and retirees . From sporting events and shopping to museums and hiking; recreational opportunities for all ages abound. Click on one

NATURE

   For the hiking enthusiast, we have the Rails to Trails walking trail. This trail spans from the beginning of town all the way to our neighboring community of Ruth. The western region of Rutherford County has been

used for its scenic beauty in various films and is the home of  the Chimney Rock Park, a focal point of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This area of Rutherford County can been seen in  movies, such as Firestarter,  Last of

the Mohicans,  My Fellow Americans, A Breed Apart and the very popular Dirty Dancing. The Lake Lure area is also the location for the 2006

HGTV Dream Home. Rutherford County has an wealth of recreational

water facilities; from man-made lakes to rivers perfect for drifting along in kayaks, canoes, or inner tubes. Or you can visit Lake Imogene with the

kids to feed  Isothermal Community College's resident ducks and geese.

MUSEUMS

   There are three active museums located in the county, to provide a enlightening cultural experience for every age. They are: Rutherford

County Farm Museum, which features over 1500 artifacts relating to Rutherford County's history; the Maimy Etta Black Fine Arts Museum

and Historical Society; and the newest addition, KidSenses, which is a

highly celebrated children's interactive museum.

PARKS and RECREATION

   The North Carolina Division of Parks & Recreation provides various retreat areas for families, sporting activities, and recreation. The parks

offer a public haven into the natural world for local residents, and is also

a new striking destination for visitors who stop by Spindale, Chimney

Rock, Lake Lure, or other destinations within Rutherford County.

   Whether you are out with the family, or just looking for fun on

your own, Rutherford County is the place! With the vast amount of activities, you are sure to find something to suit your adventurous moods. How about a picnic beside the lake at Isothermal? How about watching a basketball game held at the Spindale House or you could catch a baseball game with the Forest City Owls? Or possibly drive up and enjoy a day at

the water park located on the beach at Lake Lure.  Whatever you choose, there is something for everyone.
